Ever just wanted to feel like MacGyver, if for no other reason? If you don’t want to grow the mullet but want to open a locked door subtly, here’s a good trick. Tie a piece of string to an unfolded paperclip. Dangle the clip through the slot of a locked door that opens towards you. Fish it out the other side and pull the string to pop the door latch open. Only works on lower security doors, and often this type of knob can simply be opened with a coin, but come on, it’s the most MacGyver thing you can do without applying to the Phoenix Foundation.
