In my kingdom, all books would be spiral bound. They lay flat, you can fold them over, and they don’t fan closed whilst you read. Since it’s not my kingdom, I grew up wrangling stubborn books, creasing their spines till their bindings became damaged, still having to endure their tenacious impertinence. That recently ended when I saw a teacher simply pinch the offending pages with a binder clip. The book immediately laid flat and didn’t fight back. Now I can spend less time wrangling and more time learning fancy words like “tenacious” and “impertinence”.
